Canine Good Citizen® Certificate
Dogs that possess good manners are eligible for a Canine Good Citizen
certificate from the AKC (American Kennel Club). It is a program developed by
the AKC to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community.
The CGC program..."stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and
basic good manners for dogs." Dogs who pass receive a certificate, suitable
for framing and display, from the AKC and are automatically recorded in the
AKC's Canine Good Citizen® archive.
There are also jacket patches, dog tags, and other memorabilia to be had;
signifying that your dog is indeed a Canine Good Citizen® .
As of April 2001, Evaluators undergo an AKC approval process and are
registered with the American Kennel Club. Be sure that your evaluator is an
approved member of the American Kennel Club.
To receive a CGC certificate your dog must be able to pass a 10 part test. To
find out what is required; http://www.akc.org/love/cgc/testprocedures.cfm

* Clubs, or training groups, that would like to hold CGC testing to promote
good canine citizenship and fundraising, a 60/40 split of proceeds can be
arranged.
